Big tentpole movies with super heroes, period films, buddy comedies, etc. The more vfx in a film the more the studio will want to do it in a different country simply to gain free subsidy money, not because it's cheaper. Probably not worth it if there's only a dozen shots.Scott Squireshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15920073387249178066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15503145.post-56291853498548635672014-03-24T18:17:59.527-07:002014-03-24T18:17:59.527-07:00Is there any relation to the content VFX artists c...Is there any relation to the content VFX artists create and their current struggle?
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15503145.post-67412435327680860272012-08-18T18:04:30.087-07:002012-08-18T18:04:30.087-07:00Here's a hot link to the article referred in t...Here's a hot link to the article referred in the comment above.

Stop Runaway Production articleScott Squireshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15920073387249178066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15503145.post-23112223394607806972012-08-18T16:49:37.430-07:002012-08-18T16:49:37.430-07:00I write for and help run the Film Works campaign. ...I write for and help run the Film Works campaign. I can tell you the MPAA has operatives and paid lobbyists in EVERY jurisdiction lobbying for incentives and they do a very good job of getting sham economic reports published to cloud the debate over the ROI. We have come in to direct conflict with them over articles we had written to explain how film incentives actually work. It seems the MPAAAdrianhttp://www.stoprunawayproduction.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15503145.post-29061118354725097432012-08-18T12:14:52.685-07:002012-08-18T12:14:52.685-07:00Scott... well done. Years ago, Michael Ovitz and CAA came on the scene and restructured the power of actors and filmmakers in a way which caught the studios off guard.. I am only recently introduced to your blog but it a brilliant resource for nuanced conversation on some subjects that can be very volatile as they affect some people very seriously. This measured conversation is vital to keep people rational in how to respond and interact with each other.

With regards to incentives (actually subsidies), I agree that they are an unfortunate Wayne Lewisnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15503145.post-48665166749082788212012-08-15T17:29:48.074-07:002012-08-15T17:29:48.074-07:00Interesting read. With the strengthening of the Australian dollar without this it would be tough to do export work. We've averaged 70-80cents against the USD over a long time and in recent times we are sitting at parity and above.
